SUMMARY:Panel Discussion—The Age of Revolutions and Its Lasting Impacts on South Florida
DESCRIPTION:Program participants will receive complimentary admission and expedited entry to view the exhibition\, Freedom Plane National Tour: Documents That Forged A Nation\, following the program.\nRevolutions have shaped the modern world—reshaping governments\, economies\, and cultures far beyond the moments in which they occurred. This panel discussion explores the enduring legacy of revolutionary movements\, beginning with the American Revolution and extending to revolutions in the Caribbean\, Latin America\, and beyond\, and how their ideas\, conflicts\, and migrations continue to influence South Florida today. \nThrough historical context and contemporary perspectives\, panelists will examine how revolutionary ideals such as liberty\, citizenship\, resistance\, and self-determination have shaped Miami’s evolving political\, social\, and cultural landscape. The conversation will highlight themes of exile\, identity\, and civic engagement\, inviting audiences to consider how global and American revolutionary movements have left lasting marks on our local community. \nPresented in conjunction with the National Archives’ Freedom Plane National Tour: Documents That Forged a Nation\, a traveling exhibition marking the 250th anniversary of the United States\, on view at Museum of Miami June 20th through July 5th. \nMembers: $25\, Non-Members: $35\, Students & Educators: $15 (with valid ID)

SUMMARY:Fourth of July Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Two hundred and fifty years of America. One hundred and thirty years of Miami. One city ready to celebrate both. \nThis Fourth of July\, Museum of Museum invites Greater Miami to come together downtown for a free\, family-friendly Independence Day celebration that is festive\, meaningful\, and unmistakably 305. At the center of it all is Freedom Plane: Documents that Forged a Nation — a rare traveling exhibition from the National Archives bringing foundational American documents to life\, including the Treaty of Paris and other extraordinary artifacts. We are one of only eight museums in the nation selected to host this once-in-a-generation exhibition. This is your chance to stand face to face with the documents that shaped a country. \nBut this is Miami\,  so we’re making it a party. \nHear the live reading from the winner of our oratory contest. Move to the music. Let the kids explore. Grab a bite from on-site vendors. And spend the day surrounded by neighbors\, newcomers\, and everyone in between to mark a moment that belongs to all of us. \nHistory is happening here. Come be part of it. \nRegistration is FREE with required admission.

SUMMARY:Stitched Statements: Textile Banners with Cheryl Pope
DESCRIPTION:In this two-day workshop\, explore the special exhibition\, Get in the Game: Sports\, Art\, Culture\, to discover how artists use traditional sports banners\, pennants\, flags\, and fashion to express powerful ideas—including Pope’s own letter jacket artwork. These artworks will inspire the creation of our own stitched statements. \nIn the studio\, we’ll reflect on language and writing before designing and preparing felt lettering on banner backings. Using simple appliqué and hand-stitching techniques\, we’ll bring our words to life. The result—bold\, meaningful banners with motivational messages about everyday life\, personal reflections\, social justice\, or simply for fun! \n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is for participants ages 14+. Free with museum admission. Admission is $18 for adults and free for members.
